WHAT NOT TO DO FOR SEO: PART 12 | Cloaking

As an SEO company in Fort Collins, we’ve seen people make a number of mistakes in trying to improve their rankings on Google. Today we’re talking about one of the oldest tricks in the book. It’s all about trying to pull a fast one on ol’ Google. Sometimes, some webmasters decide they want to get cute and try to pull the wool over Google’s eyes by not really telling the truth about what’s on their website. This is called cloaking. Cloaking occurs when a “fake” website is presented to a search engine, and the real website is only presented to viewers in an attempt to “trick” the search engines.

If you’re going to have a website, it’s best to just show Google exactly what you’re all about. Tricking a search engine is never good for business. And you can be sure it’s not good for your SEO either.
